What started off as a 1-2 month break from blogging, turned into 4 months. And it felt great. But now I’m refreshed and ready to start laying out the posts on a daily basis. Digressions used to be a place where I could post stories, anecdotes, and relevant information about the pictures I took, the processes involved, and why I love my medium. I also included information about work I was interested in, and a handful of daily musings.
Now my aim is much more focused. Digressions will serve as a curatorial project with the intent of adding meaningful, relevant, and hopefully poignant dialogue to the wide range of photographic and artistic discourses currently being debated. I’m hesitant to use the word “curatorial” because of the weight it carries, but I’ll explain what I mean.
Each month, a new theme will be chosen, and for the entirity of that month, I will blog about said theme. Simple I know, but it’s a way for me to focus ideas I want to project in a neat, concise fashion. For example, in January or February I will be launching a series of interviews with emerging photographers. The month after I might choose to post about a book from my collection each day. True to the title of this blog, each month will serve as a digression from the overarching discussion at hand: photography. Grandiose sounding perhaps, but that’s just the personal blog syntax I hold so dear to my heart.
And true to “habitual/impulsive young person internet/blog usage” form, I will continue to occasionally post about my own work and attempts at doing this photography thing. I’ll try to keep it to a minimum. After all, me and my friends have a blog just for posting new work: photodreamboats.
Thanks for all those that still read, and be sure to subscribe to the rss feed! If you’re not using a feed service, you’re insane!
