New Baltimore Work and an Opening Tomorrow Night!

Mother and Daughter, 2009, from Untitled, Baltimore

Untitled (Baltimore) has been updated with 11 new images and a more cohesive edit. This has been a very tough project for me to work on, both the actual shooting and editing and the variety of social issues that need to be accounted for when making this work. In terms of population density, demographic and landscape, I’m essentially working in the complete opposite environment from the regions of Appalachia I’ve been focusing on. There are of course similarities as well. Baltimore is a place with high unemployment and poverty, fighting against a backdrop of its theatrical pop culture and media representation. With this new edit, I’m finally comfortable saying the project has begun, but it’s going to need a lot of work over the coming years.

I will also be showing this work for the first time at Umbrage Gallery in DUMBO for the next couple of months. The Dreamboats Collective exhibition opens tomorrow night (Thursday) from 6-8. E-friends and strangers alike, if you live in New York, come and say hello!
